Job Scope
- Leads department resources to provide technical services that ensure long-term competitiveness of the site.
- Develops annual capital budget and 5-year capital plan for the plant and owns management of the Capital portfolio for the site.
- Oversees efficient and effective design and execution effort for plant capital and expense projects, meeting both schedule and cost targets.
- Enhances operational performance improvements via monitoring of key process parameters and initiating process adjustments and/or equipment changes.
- Supports manufacturing world-class excellence by staying current on technology and industry practices. Seeks out new methods and technology to improve the way we work.
- Provides accurate and cost-effective analytical services to the plant.
- Ensures department utilization, implementation and compliance with all local policies and procedures as well as Global standards and best practices.
- Ensures all Technical Department personnel are adequately trained and competent to meet or exceed standards.
- Works very closely and collaboratively with the Operations, Maintenance and Responsible Care Departments to address plant EHS and operational issues.
- Provides ongoing support in water treatment technical issues for the Operations Team through interaction with the Global Experts.
- Visible in the plant and Control Room as an integral part of operations at the site and as an example for all Technical Team members.
- Supports and contributes to the mission, vision and core principles of Leadership.
- Conducts personal and company affairs in an ethical, professional and trustworthy manner.
- Ensures that the performance management system is competently and fairly applied to all department members.
- Leads a performance culture via continuous performance feedback, employee training and development, and succession and retention planning.
- Actively participates on the Site Management Team providing input and support to initiatives and policies established by SMT.
- Strong people leadership in coaching and mentoring employees as requested/needed with direct reports and other team members.
- Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism.
- Promotes and supports the one team culture with Technical dept and other groups.

- Contributing to the process of continuous training and qualification improvement of employees within the Department.
- Manages department reporting of hazards, near misses and incidents along with actions associated with the KMI incident management system.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, PSM, Responsible Care® and ISO requirements.
- Manages the appropriate process safety systems to ensure compliance to OSHA and PSM regulations, e.g., MOC, PHA, PSI.
- Institutes appropriate engineering standards, specifications and processes that comply with policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Enhances Responsible Care® performance improvements via process improvements, employee training and engineering projects.
- Supports global engineering, technology and project initiatives.
- Works collaboratively with the Operations and Maintenance Departments to continuously improve plant competitive position in the industry.
- Promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion by continuously identifying opportunities through people selection, team activities and day to day team behaviors.
- Promotes and drives interaction with the Global experts to find solutions to issues.
- Actively participate in training and pursue continuing professional development.
- Promotes and supports Social Responsibility initiatives and encourages team to get involved.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Engineering required; Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical/Instrument/Control system discipline preferred and/or equivalent related experience/combined education.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering/technical services.
- Typically, 5 years management experience in the manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of standards, policies and procedures.
- Experience in Methanol, Ammonia or refinery operation will be an asset.
- Working experience in Project Management or having PMP Designation will be an asset.
- Demonstrated Leadership skills.
- Strong communication and employee motivation abilities.
- Planning, organization and time management skills.
- Technical and problem-solving abilities.
- Competence in all common computer applications.
